Building Your Own - Frequently Asked Questions. How long does it take to build a StabilizerFLEX? Depending on how many hours you have to dedicate to it. Most parts can be assembled in one day, however the components that are glued need to be untouched for an additional day to dry and set. The painting takes only a couple of hours to do, but it also needs to be left alone to dry properly before handling. So all together without rushing, about 3 days. How much money will I need to spend on materials? This depends on what part of the US or the world you are in, where price per item may vary. But in the US assuming you purchase all materials from your local hardware store, it adds up to between $60 to $80 all together. What if I already have some materials, do I need to buy everything? Technically NO, but if you choose to use a different size of screws or another type of glue or perhaps choose not to use a 3-way pan/tilt head on your stabilizer, we cannot promise that your unit may be able to perform or do what a unit made with our recommended materials will do otherwise. So, in this case we leave this decision up to you. Do I need a drill? NOT necessarily, the only hole you will need to make it’s on the end cap that will be attached to the 3-way pan/tilt head. You can also make this hole with a screw driver making sure you do not make the opening larger than the ¼ bolt screw that will be inserted through it. The screws to secure the joint components can also be bolted without a drill, but they do however require some careful handling. Are the joint components strong enough for the weight of a camera and other equipment? Absolutely, when properly glued and bolted the joints are as strong as if they would have been manufactured together, as long as you stay within the camera weight limit of 9 Lbs. or 4 Kilos. you should not have any problems with it. After all… we trust it with our expensive equipment as well. How much money do you make by selling them? Not much really, if you add up the cost of materials, lets say $60+$10 for packaging and $22 to $42 for shipping we only make a modest amount that simply compensates for our time, and gives us something to do on our free time. |
